((Capital murder suspect Ben Lilly could only sit and listen as his friend,
Gary Barker, gave him up.
Barker was with Ben Lilly and Lilly's brother the night Virginia Tech
student Alexander Defillipis was shot and killed.
He says Defillipis was outside a convenience store when Ben Lilly decided to
pull off a carjacking.

Barker testified that Lilly drove the group to the Whitehorn section of the

let the Tech student go free.
But Barker then said Lilly changed his mind... and killed him.

He testified that Lilly was afraid Defillipis would be able to identify
him... and ultimately send him back to jail.

Virginia lawmakers are cleaning house.
A legislative subcommittee is recommending changes to a law that granted
immunity from arrest to lawmakers during the winter legislative session.

The immunity law came under close scrutiny earlier this year when Suffolk
Delegate Robert Nelms used it as a defense for an indecent exposure charge.
Nelms ended up pleading GUILTY.
Sixth district Congressional Candidate Jeff Grey put the focus on children
today, as he called for an expansion of the Head Start Program.
Speaking with reporters outside of the Salem Head Start Center, Grey said
the program has worked well, and should be expanded to include all of the
children who are eligible.
Today, he charged that republican incumbent Bob Goodlatte voted to cut
funding for the program.
