would monopolize rail service on the east coast.
Aside from the higher stock buy out price... the OVERALL deal proposed by N-
S is worth about billion dollars more than the one announced last week with
CSX.
The choice is now up to Conrail... but if history is any indication, it will
take a while.
Most analysts expect a back and forth bidding war in the coming months.

evidence, the time line, and fiber matches will show Simpson is guilty of the

During an appearance yesterday at Liberty University in Lynchburg, religious
broadcaster Pat Robertson said that Bob Dole's presidential campaign is inept.
Robertson was an unsuccessful candidate for the Republican nomination in
19-88.
The Virginia Beach-based broadcaster says he would "not" run a campaign the
way Dole has.
A spokesman for Dole's Virginia campaign -- said such criticism is not
helpful to Dole's chances against President Clinton.
He said he hopes Robertson's followers won't be so discouraged that they stay
home November 5th.

Raleigh Dean Martin was in court yesterday morning for a motions hearing.
The 35- year- old was arrested Election Night a year ago for killing his
wife, Marion.

He's also charged with killing a couple in a neighboring home.
32- year- old Joseph Siffert, Junior and his girlfriend Barbara Hackney were
discovered shot to death the same night.
In court yesterday, the judge ruled Martin's attorney could spend up to 5-
thousand dollars to hire a private investigator.

A 42- year- old Northwest Roanoke man was fatally shot in the head by his
wife early yesterday morning.
Garret Wayne Cunningham and Rhonda Banks Cunningham were arguing at their
home on 10th Street.
She told police she went to get a gun once the argument began, because of
"violence in the past."
At first she put the weapon to her own head out of frustration.
When she lowered it, her husband lunged for the gun, and it went off.
The bullet struck him in the head.
He died at the hospital.
The mother of five has not been charged, but the investigation is not over.

Roanoke City Council and from the two teenagers he rescued from a burning car.

when their car collided with a tractor trailer on Interstate 5-81 and caught
