They're now calling it an outbreak....as seven people in the New River
Valley have been diagnosed with Legionnaires' Disease.

Connie Stevens joins us from the newsroom with more on this acute form of
pneumonia...that, in some cases, is deadly.

Keith, that's because this bug-- the legionella bacteria-- is fast acting.
But while there are seven confirmed cases-- throughout Montgomery County,
Giles, and Floyd....it's important to note that five of those patients are
home...doing fine.
Two however are hospitalized and in critical condition.
Finding the source of this bacteria is now a priority....there's no obvious
connection, though.
This investigation will involve local, state, and federal authorities.
The sources of this bacteria are varied...but, it's not spread person to
person.

Rather, the bug can thrive in water taps-- or hot tubs, humidifiers, air
conditioning cooling towers, or ponds and moist soil.

trial.
More than 10 months ago, Virginia Tech students Alexander Deflippis was shot

A Danville family has taken down part of a roadside memorial to two children
who were killed in a traffic accident.

Raymond and Tammy Mustain put up the memorial, including a 900 pound statue
of the Virgin Mary, at the intersection of Route 265 and Elizabeth Street.
State transportation officials gave them until November first to take down
the statue, saying it's a potential traffic hazard.
