Welcome everybody to Friday Football Extra and week number nine of the
It's hard to believe but only two weeks remain in the regular season.
Let's begin this week's show down in Campbell County where the Brookville
Bees have been quietly putting together an outstanding season.
The Bees only bump came on September 27th when they were beaten by Staunton
River. The rest of the year they've been unbeatable.
SUPER=51-Campbell Co./Liberty vs. Brookville; :00
The Brookville offense looked a lot like the classic Corvettes used in
tonight's homecoming celebration.
Once the Bees got ranked up they were hard to catch.
Liberty drew first blood as the Minutemen lived up to their game getting a
turnover in the first 60 seconds, and then Andy Fyke hauled in this pass but he
fumbles into the endzone, and teammate Daniel Bayes recovers for a 7-to-nothing
Brookville would strike back on its next series, Jason Browns pass finds Jeff
Woody in the endzone and its a 7-to-6 game the Bees led 21-to-14 at halftime -
which was reserved for Megan White, who was crowned Homecoming Queen.
Liberty knotted up the score on its first series of the third as Jerry
Staples cake walks into the endzone with the great blocking.
The Bees would dominate the rest of the way doubling up the score as Woody
takes the reverse handoff and he will scores to make it 28-to-21 Brookville.
Liberty's hopes for a comeback were dashed when quarterback Robert Carson
exited with shoulder injury.
Woody would pick off a Brandon Mills pass in his absence to seal the deal as
the Bees stay on track for the playoffs with the 42-to-21 win.

As I said, the only team to beat Brookville this year is Staunton River.

The Golden Eagles came soaring into to tonight's home game boasting a 7-to-1
And the home boys would get off Quickly as Jarrett Ferguson does the flying

The Homecoming crowd was just getting warmed up when Kevin Martin got loose
on the left sideline, and the former Player of the week makes it a
However, the Red Devils had a little trickery in them tonight as quarterback
Matt Sales sneaks in from the one to make it 14-to-7.

But the Eagles' Ferguson would score again - this time from 71 yards away as
he breaks into the clear. Staunton River issues a little payback for all those
bad beatings they took at the hands of Rustburg in the past decade. The final

Pulaski was off tonight, but Cave Spring and William Fleming were on the job
as the Colonels celebrated Homecoming with the Knights at Victory Stadium.
SUPER=51-Roanoke/Cave Spring vs. William Fleming; :00
George "Killer" Miller was pleading his case with the refs in the first half
trying to keep his Colonels in the game.
And his star back would get on the good foot in the first quarter as Lee
Suggs takes the pill and rumbles 41 yards down to the Knights 15 yard line.
Two plays later, Mondre Burnette finds Josh Taylor on the 14 yard touchdown
pass and the Colonels light up the stadium's Eisenhower era scoreboard -
Cave Spring would struggle early in this one falling behind 18-to-zip. But
on this second and 11, Cory Paxton scrambles and does a good job of finding
Anthony Bailey. And Bailey kicks off the afterburners as he scores on a 62 yard
play to cut the lead to 18-to-8.
SUPER=52-Cave Spring/14/William Fleming/37;
This was also a big night off the field for the Colonels as the 96
Homecoming court was honored at halftime.
Carla Miller was crowned Homecoming queen and the Colonels have a happy
night with the 37 to 14 win.
The Blue Ridge rundown is coming up immediatly after this short break as we
head to Salem, Daleville, Vinton and Blacksburg.
But we need to get in step with the Franklin County Eagles marching band from
Cy Dillon stadium.
Go to Band-A
SUPER=64-Patrick Co./6/Magna Vista/31;
We 're back and ready to take a trip through the Blue Ridge district.
And we'll begin at the top where the Salem Spartans welcomed Alleghany to
The Mounties as many you may remember were the first Blue Ridge team to win
in the stadium, but history would not repeat itself tonight.
SUPER=51-Salem/Alleghany vs. Salem; :00
It may have been Salem's Homecoming tonight but it was fright night for
Salem would find the endzone in the first two minutes of the game. The
Spartan line opens up the Mounties' defense, Chris Stuart takes advantage of
the space and scampers 35 yards for the score.
The Alleghany defense just couldn't control the line of scrimmage, on third
and three at the nine the Salem line creates another big hole this time Brandon
Poff waltzes in for the score.
And the misery continued for Alleghany as the Spartans scored a mountain of
points and shut out the Mounties 51 -to-0. Not a misprint - just a mismatch.
The once beaten Cavaliers of Lord Botetourt were trying to keep pace with the
Spartans tonight as they hooked up with the slumping Rockbridge County
SUPER=51-Daleville/Rockbridge Co. vs. Lord Botetourt; :00
But for some fans the game on the sideline was more captivating than the one
on the field.
On the gridiron, Rockbridge County quarterback Travis Clark tried to keep it
close, on second and seven at the 16 Clark finds John McCoy in the end zone and
the score is tied at 22.
But the Cavs get the ball back with 28 seconds left in the half. Seth Myers
uses the time wisely, drops back to pass and finds Chad Farmer for the 29 yard
And Botetourt's scoring ways continued in the second. Wesley Cox sets up a
Cavaliers' score by breaking tackles and carrying defenders falling short of
the end zone by just inches.
SUPER=52-Rockbridge Co./22/Lord Botetourt/43;
But in the end it was the Wildcats who would get the short end of stick.
Botetourt wins it 43 to 22.

The only district team to beat salem this year, the William Byrd Terriers
were back in the Dog House this week trying to keep the Blue Demons from taking
over Terrier field.
SUPER=51-Vinton/Christiansburg vs. William Byrd; :00
At halftime the Terriers crowned Leah Leavens this year's Homecoming Queen,
and then they set out trying to put away Christiansburg.
With Byrd on top 7-to-nothing in the fourth, Terrier quarterback Frank
English calls his own number and trots 49 yards into the endzone with some good
speed around the right side as Byrd goes in front 14-to-nothing.
Christiansburg got back in it a little bit as quarterback Chris Epperley
finds a wide open John Hindle on the five yard scoring strike and it's 14-to-7.
The Blue Demons had another chance to tie it with 56 seconds to go, but Jamie
Fuqua intercepts the Chris Epperly pass and Byrd hangs on to win 14-to-7.

A battle of two teams headed in opposite directions tonight in Blacksburg as
the Indians hosted Northside.
The Vikes got stomped last week, while the Indians posted a shutout.
SUPER=51-Blacksburg/Northside vs. Blacksburg; :00
But tonight the only rest that Blacksburg would get would occur before the
game as Northside came out with the no-huddle offense on the opening drive.
The Vikes, John Doss, the former player of the week picks up 15 yards off the
right side down to the Blacksburg 33 yard line.
Several plays later, James Taylor gets the call up the middle and he scores
from 8 yards out to make it 6-to-nothing Northside.
The Vikings would strike again when number 3, Xavier Lee intercepts Tommy
Leforce's pass and breaks free down the sideline on the 56 yard return for the
a score and a 12-to-nothing lead.
Northside blows the Indians away 50-to-7.
The Group-A crowd steps on stage next as we make our way to Riner, Buena

One of Friday Football Extra's most entertaining and for a long time most
lopsided rivalries was restarted tonight in Buena Vista as Parry McCluer hosted
Covington at Camden Field.
SUPER=51-Buena Vista/Covington vs. Parry McCluer; :00
The Buena Vista little league cheerleaders broke bad with a version of the
Macarena as a Blues released a batch of color into the night sky.
But Covington would get with first, as William Stewart hands off to Grover
Price and the Cougar prowls up the middle for 44 yards before he's stopped on
the Blues 3 yard line.
Stewart would then keep and score and suddenly the upset was on as the
Cougars grabbed a 7-to-nothing lead.
The Blues would settle down and gain some ground of their own as Adam Rhodes
reuturns the kickoff 28 yards to set up a score as the Blues come back to win
it 14 to 7.
The James River Knight were back home in Buchanan tonight trying to bounce
back from last week's disappointing loss to the Blues that could have
essentially locked up the PIoneer district for the team.
SUPER=51-Buchanan/Shawsville vs. James River; :00
It was an early trick or treat night as two of the Knights put on the paint
and pads for the visiting Shawnees.
We pick up action the third with James River riding a 40-to-nothing lead and
on the move for more, Jimmy Thompson keeps on the option and rolls around the
left end and goes 34 yards for the touchdown and the score is now 47-to-nothing
Shawsville would prevent the shutout, but just barely as Chris Graham rolls
right and finds Paul Sink wide open in the endzone to put the Shawnees on the

over Patrick County tonight in Ridgeway.
SUPER=51-Ridgeway/Patrick Co. vs. Magna Vista; :00
The State's top ranked double A came onto the field with plenty of confidence
tonight, and for good reason.
The warriors Billy Shelton hands off to Travis Preston and he takes care
of the final nine yards of the drive scoring early to make it 8-to-nothing.
In the second quarter Patrick County would gets its only score of the night
as Carter Deekens hands off to Junior Penn and he will score from 25 yards out
to make it 8-to-6.
SUPER=52-Patrick Co./6/Magna Vista/31;
But that was it as Magna Vista scores the final 23 points of the game as
Shelton gets in from five yards out and the Warriors win it 31-to-6.
The Martinsville Bulldogs not only had to get over last week's bashing at the
hands of the Warriors, they also had to work through a possible family feud
that was brewing at the quarterback spot.
SUPER=51-Martinsville/Fieldale-Coll. vs. Martinsville; :00
A full moon and a big crowd on hand tonight at Dan Greene stadium, and people
tend to do strange things when the moon is full as witnessed by this play.
FC's Philip Hairston passes the rock to Kevin Franklin - he thens hands it
off to Deiandre Bethel, who then tosses it back to Hairston - who will in turn
throw the interception to the Dogs Leander Preston. Yes, folks they drew that
up in the dirt.
Martinsville's defense would also stop the conventional plays as they stop
Fieldale's Joey Taylor just short of the goal line, and Martinsville is able to
win it 21-to-13.
