Neighbors react to the death of a man killed in a house fire in the Garden
City community this evening.

60- year- old David Hurt was killed tonight when fire broke out at his
southeast Roanoke home.
The blaze started around 4- 30 this afternoon.
Fire officials found Hurt's body in the kitchen near a window.

Tyree says Hurt apparently died of smoke inhalation.
In the close community of Garden City, those who knew Hurt say he spent
several years in the army, but lived most of his life in their neighborhood.

Fire officials are still investigating the cause, but believe Hurt may
have fallen asleep with a cigarette.
They say the house is a total loss.
There are now 13 Legionnaires' Disease cases confirmed in the New River
Valley, stemming from an outbreak, the first in Virginia.
These latest cases involve two people who had already been treated for
pneumonia-- but were tested because of the outbreak.
Only one of the 13 patients remains hospitalized.
Health officials still haven't identified the cause of the outbreak-- but
believe a common source is linked to the legionella bacteria in these cases.
They'll be out canvassing area businesses and public places-- anywhere
aerosolized water might be found.
Their search will involve plant misters, hot-tubs, showers, air
conditioning cooling towers, moist soil...a number of possibilities from any
number of locations.
A corporate jet crash this afternoon killed all four people on board.
It happened outside of Chicago, when the plane went down just across the
street from the airport in Wheeling.
The plane narrowly missed an apartment building.
One witness saw flames coming from the jet before it crashed.
He spent 25 years ENFORCING the law.
Today E-Michael (Kay-Hoe) admitted he broke it-- obstructing justice-- in
connection with the seize at Ruby Ridge.
Kahoe plead guilty admitting he hid and destroyed an internal review of the
siege in Idaho.

Inhalant abuse is tough to spot.
On their own, the symptoms don't stand out.
They include: slurred speech, headaches, involuntary eye movement, impaired
attention, loss of appetite and poor balance and coordination.
Also, keep an eye out for aerosol cans that aren't empty, but have no
propellant left in them-- as well as cans with the nozzles removed-- and rags
and paper bags with aerosol residue.

Making way for the future could destroy history--
A state organization found out a building under construction in Botetourt
County is going up near an old Indian Village.
Now archaeologists are discovering artifacts.
Scott Prince went along on a dig and files this report.

And it's one of many new companies hoping to build up Botetourt County's

preserve its history.
This area was once home to a Native American village... and archaeologists
and volunteers are helping to keep it safe.

After digging a series of trenches... the group discovered dozens of refuse
pits... where garbage was buried.
A number of artifacts have been recovered as well, like broken pieces of
pottery... animal bones... and arrow heads.
The archaeologists are also trying to determine which tribe settled here.
At this point they believe it was either the Totero or Tutelo Indians who
inhabited this land some 600 years ago.

The group plans to excavate artifacts for a few more days.
But Klatka says the learning process will continue on.
