For the past week, the group's been involved in an archeological dig in Buchanan.... near the FUTURE home of the Virginia Forge plant.
The team's already found a series of refuse pits... plus a number of artifacts... including pottery pieces and arrow heads.
Expedition leaders also believe the village might have served as an Indian burial ground.

((TOM KLATKA/VIRGINIA DEPARTMENT OF HISTORIC RESOURCES: BASED ON RESEARCH AT OTHER SITES, WE DO KNOW THAT NATIVE AMERICANS BURIED THEIR DEAD WITHIN THE VILLAGE ITSELF-- USUALLY RIGHT OUTSIDE THE HOUSES. AND SO IT'S CONCEIVABLE THAT IN THIS VILLAGE ITSELF, THERE WOULD BE A NUMBER OF BURIALS... BUT WE HAVEN'T FOUND ANY YET.))

Klatka says the main objective is to map out the boundaries of the village.
Virginia Forge now owns the land... but has promised to avoid any construction on the site. (----------------)
