According to government statistics, 28 children have died of injuries caused by airbags.. which can explode at up to 200 miles per hour. Along with mailing letters, America's largest automakers are drawing up warning labels urging parents to buckle their kids up in the back seat. ANDREW CARD: OUR GOAL IS TO MITIGATE THE PROBLEM AS QWIGKLY AS POSSIBLE. WE WANT THE LABEL TO BE EFFECTIVE AND WE'RE COMMITTED TO SENDING THAT LABEL OUT WITH THE NEW VEHICLES. JANET DEWEY: THE MESSAGE IS THAT KIDS AND AIRBAGS DON'T MIX. IT'S NOT ANYTHING TO FOOL AROUND WITH -- KIDS HAVE TO BE IN THE BACK SEAT.
The big three will also also create an airbag with a lower explosion speed for the canadian market.
