Norfolk Southern today asked a judge to block a provision in the merger deal agreed upon by C-S-X and Conrail that would make it difficult for any other offers to be heard.
N-S put in a competing bid for Conrail last week.
It tops a previous offer by C-S-X by more than a BILLION dollars.
A Conrail merger with Norfolk Southern or C-S-X would create the nation's third- largest railroad.
The court will hear Norfolk Southern request on Monday.

((Detective Tom Lange took the stand for a second day. Lange was one of the original detectives on the criminal case under cross examination. Simpson's lawyer Robert Baker stuck to expected themes of sloppy police work and careless evidence collection. Baker wanted to know why detectives had not collected a small piece of paper found near Nicole Brown Simpson's head and why there was so little dirt on the cap and bloody glove found at the scene. Baker asked Lange if it ever occured to him that the items had been planted at the scene. Lange replied certainly not.
In the big suprise of the day, Detective Phillip Vannater was called to the stand and was there for little more than thirty minuites before being dismissed. It was expected that Vannater would be grilled under cross examination about blood evidence, but plaintiff's attorneys only asked Vannater a few quick questions and then let him go and Simpson's attorneys were unable to bring up evidence not introduced by the Plaintiffs.

Boeing today sent an urgent bulletin to airlines- recommending that all Boeing 737's be taken to maintenance facilities for a one time rudder inspection within the next ten days-

Boeing says the jamming is highly unlikely, but issued a bulletin after looking at testing done by the NTSB.
