Senior Senator John Warner spent
his last election day touring four cities in the Commonwealth including
Ellen Qualls was in Alexandria when he finished campaigning.

For Mark Warner the campaign trail ends eight months and more than 10 million
dollars away from where he started.
Even as most polls peg him as a double digit underdog, the democratic
challenger says victory is still within reach.

Blood evidence is taking center stage at the O-J Simpson trial.
A former L-A police supervisor told the jury about D-N-A evidence.

Gregory Matheson says preliminary testing showed Simpson was one of only 550
to 570 people in the population who
could have left a blood drop on the front walk at the crime scene.
Also today, the judge cut short defense questioning on the last few
witnesses, ruling that topics NOT brought up during during direct examination
could not be asked during cross-examination.
Simpson's attorney has now filed an appeal to stop the trial and rule on
what can and can not come up in cross-examination.
A letter carrier was indicted today for stalking women on his postal route
in Southeast Roanoke.
The incidents occurred in July and August. Anthony Tyler Jefferson is
accused in an eight- count indictment of stalking, making obscene phone calls,
assault and battery.
Chief Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Betty Jo Anthony says Jefferson was
indicted LAST month for breaking and entering with intent to commit rape- -also
on his mail route.
Jefferson is already out on bond ...but lost his job with the Postal Service
over the breaking and entering charge.
A recent mailing from Congressman Bob Goodlatte's campaign is delivering
some controversy in the sixth district race.
Democratic challenger Jeff Grey says the pamphlet makes false claims about
It states that Grey supports special rights for homosexuals, mandates on
health care, and takes no position on the line item veto.
Grey says those accusations are wrong.

Meanwhile, both campaigns say they've run positive races, and just wanted
to set the record straight.
A hostile bidding war involving a big local employer may be turning a little
Norfolk Southern and C-S-X have been talking about their competing attempts
to purchase Conrail.
They reportedly discussed letting the deal between Conrail and C-S-X go
through, then splitting up Conrail's assets.
A Roanoke stockbroker who follows the rail industry believes that would
prevent a messy fight and strengthen N-S.

Last month C-S-X and Conrail announced their merger plans.
N-S followed with a hostile takeover bid.
About 35- hundred people in our area work for N-S.
Several thousand others are retirees or N-S shareholders.
C-S-X has about 230 people working out of its terminal in Clifton Forge.
The two Virginia- based rail lines have been courting Conrail for more than
a decade, because of its strong market share in the northeast.
Virginia's largest health insurer says it plans to dump Danville Regional
Medical Center from its network.
A press release from Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield indicates the move is a
The health insurer says the hospital's costs are approximately 30-percent
higher than those of comparable facilities in the area.
A Danville Regional spokesman says the hospital was under the impression it
still had 60-days to work out a new contract.
If the two sides aren't able to reach an agreement, the hospital will be
dropped from Trigon's network January first.
Danville Regional says regardless of the outcome, patients with Trigon
coverage will NOT be turned away.

Hundreds of Roanoke City retirees have been forced to play a waiting game
for their pension checks.
The city uses a 3rd party company called Best Mail Services... to sort and
send its letters.
The checks were suppose to be received on October 31st... but a processing
mix up held up delivery until today.

Stagg Bowl tickets for the December 14th game are on sale at the Salem Civic
So far about 15 hundred tickets have been sold.

A publicist for Jackson says a longtime friend of the singer is carrying
She is 37 year old Debbie Rowe- a nurse who treated Jackson for his rare skin
Jackson's spokeswoman quotes the singer as saying he is thrilled he will
soon be a father.
He calls the impending birth a dream come true.
A London Tabloid had reported the baby was conceived by artificial
insemination and that Jackson is paying Rowe more than a half million dollars
to carry the child.
Jackson's publicist though is denying that report.
