Roanoke attorney Bob Goodlatte gave his victory speech just a short while ago.
He thanked everyone involved with the campaign.

He said his campaign has a lot to be proud of.

A bidding war between Norfolk Southern and C-S-X is getting nasty again.

The two Virginia railroads are in a fight over who will buy Conrail, the dominant carrier in the northeast.
Norfolk Southern now says conciliatory talks between its executives and C-S-X have been terminated.
N-S now accuses C-S-X and Conrail of trying to "railroad" Conrail shareholders by giving them an inferior deal to the N-S offer.
Tomorrow Conrail is expected to file a formal response to the N-S bid made last month.

Workers put the roof on the Brugh (BREW) Tavern today.
A crane lifted the restored timbers on top of the 200-year-old building, completing a major part of the renovation project.
The building was moved to Explore from Botetourt County about a year ago.

The Belk department store chain has completed its purchase of Leggett Stores.
The chain says it is not planning any immediate changes at the 36 Leggett stores, including four in the Richmond area.
The company-- which is based in Charlotte, North Carolina -- says the names on the stores will remain Leggett, at least for the time being.
The company has not released the terms of the deal.
