at this hour for two men who entered a convenience store and stole a cash
It happened at the Uni-Mart on Gus Nicks Boulevard shortly after 9 tonight.

Thousands of people came out today in Washington DC to pay tribute to those
who fought in the Vietnam War.
Veterans and civilians alike could be seen at the Vietnam Veterans Memorial

(( The latest numbers show that about fifteen percent of the men seeking
shelter in Roanoke's Rescue Mission are veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.
A national survey suggests that downsizing in the military is leaving more
Lois Bettis, however, has another explanation.

That's a charge neither Don Walton or Bill Manning would deny.
Both are long- time residents of the mission, and both have fought their own
self- induced demons since leaving the military.
Alcohol and drugs left them without money, without a home, and without hope.

A local cellphone company gave some disabled veterans a chance to talk with
friends and family today at no cost.
Volunteers from GTE- Mobilnet paid a visit to the V-A hospital in Salem and
the nearby Veterans Care Center.
They came packing cellphones for veterans to make free long- distance calls
to loved ones.

Edmonds says the program was started to help veterans who not only can't
afford long distance calls, but are physically unable to make the call
A bomb hidden inside a coffin killed ten people in a Russian Cemetery today.
The bomb went off during a memorial service for veterans of the war in
30 other people were hurt in the blast.
Investigators think the attack is gang related, part of a clash between
rival underworld groups.
The army says overconfident flight crews caused the crash of two helicopters
in Kentucky last June.

Six soldiers died and 33 others were hurt when the two Blackhawk helicopters
collided during a training mission.
A preliminary report says a combination of "overconfidence among the crews
and a lack of situational awareness" caused the crash.
The formal investigation of the crash is still on-going.

Mr. Clinton wouldn't say if he planned to ask Colin Powell to join his
cabinet, saying only that he had a high regard for General Powell.
Liberty University could lose ownership of its Lynchburg campus if it
doesn't fork up more than a million dollars in overdue payments to bondholders.
According to a story today in the Roanoke Times, the school has until
Tuesday to come up with the money or face foreclosure.
Liberty owes an estimated 15 million dollars to its bondholders, but the
cash- strapped school has offered to repay just half that amount.
But attorneys for the school's creditors say that's not enough, and they
reserve the right to foreclose on the property.
The campus and buildings are said to be worth between six and eight million
The former director of Virginia's Explore Park has taken on a position that
will allow him to work with local landowners to protect viewsheds, historic
sites and undeveloped property.
Last week, Cutler announced he is leaving his job at the Explore Park to
join the Western Virginia Land Trust.
He will be working one- on- one with landowners to promote conservation
