Liberty University could lose ownership of its Lynchburg campus if it can't
make more than a million dollars in overdue payments to bondholders.
According to a story today in the Roanoke Times, the school has until
Tuesday to come up with the money or face foreclosure.
Liberty owes an estimated 15 million dollars to its bondholders, but the
cash- strapped school has offered to repay just half that amount.
But attorneys for the school's creditors say that's not enough, and they
reserve the right to foreclose on the property.
The campus and buildings are said to be worth between six and eight million
V-M-I and Justice Department lawyers will meet in Roanoke federal court
Wednesday to decide what accommodations V-M-I should make for women.
Next year's freshman class will be the first in school history with women.
V-M-I would like to induct women into the corps of cadets -- known as the

potential sexual harassment.

shelter in Roanoke's Rescue Mission are veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.
A national survey suggests that downsizing in the military is leaving more
Lois Bettis, however, has another explanation.

Some disabled veterans got a chance to talk with friends and family today at
no cost, thanks to a local cellphone company.
Volunteers from GTE- Mobilnet paid a visit to the V-A hospital in Salem and
the nearby Veterans Care Center.
They came packing cellphones for veterans to make free long- distance calls
to loved ones.

A Virginia family escaped serious injury when their single-engine plane
developed engine trouble and landed in marshes near Brunswick, Georgia last
Glynn County officials found the plane about two miles from a small airport.
The occupants were the pilot, a 35-year-old Mechanicsville man, his
35-year-old wife and their daughters, ages nine and five.
Their names have not released.
The woman suffered a broken collarbone and her husband had bruised and
They family was flying from Richmond to Kissimmee, Florida.
A-B-C officials say there's nothing to suggest that hard liquor ads promote
This comes after a state lawmaker asked A-B-C stores to take hard liquor off
the shelves if liquor companies advertise on Virginia T-V or radio stations.
Last week, liquor companies nationwide announced they were ending their ban
to put liquor ads on the air.
Delegate George Grayson asked the Alcoholic Beverage Control board on Friday
to keep the ads off Virginia's airwaves.
State regulations prohibit such advertising.
In his weekly radio address, President Clinton says liquor makers have made
it tougher to raise children with this week's decision.

Danville Regional Medical Center.

The battle for Conrail has turned up a notch.
After a brief move toward a compromise, Norfolk Southern and C-S-X resumed
their war of words, with C-S-X upping its bid for Conrail Wednesday, and N-S
following with a counterbid Friday.
With shareholders approving the deal this week, regulatory approval is the
only thing that stands in the way of a merger between Nynex and Bell Atlantic.
