Benjamin Sarver died from injuries at Roanoke Memorial Hospital.
45 year- old William Roberts of Salem was driving down Fourth Street last
night when he crossed the double yellow line at Wilson Street striking the car
driven by Sarver.
Another passenger in Sarver's car suffered minor injuries.
Roberts was treated and released from the hospital.
The accident happened around 10 o'clock.
Police are still investigating.
Emergency crews are on the scene of a petroleum spill in Martinsville.
Officials say the fuel is running into the storm drains near Aaron and Broad
At this point the regional hazmat team from Danville is exploring the drains
trying to find the source of the leak.
Officials say most of the petroleum has been contained.
It does not appear to be harmful to residents.
Gil Davis is hitting the campaign trail setting his sights on Virginia's
Attorney General office.
You may not recognize his name, but chances are you've probably seen his
face on the national news.
Davis is one of Paula Jones' attorneys.
Jones alleges President Clinton sexually harassed her while he was Governor
The President denies ever having an encounter with Jones.
The case goes before The Supreme Court in January.
Davis hopes the justices will rule that the president must face these
charges while in office.

The historic power-sharing agreement Goode helped craft in the evenly split
senate of 1996 will likely remain in effect until 1999.
It would take a two-thirds vote to overturn it.
Before that special election can be held... the Congressman- Elect has to
turn in his senate resignation.
At a Reynolds rally last week, Goode said it will probably be at least
another week before he officially resigns his post.

The Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church used to stand on what is now the civic
center parking lot.
Church members weren't forced to sell, but the redevelopment left them with
no parking or direct access to the church.
The Housing and Redevelopment Authority bought up most of the property in
this northeast neighborhood.
Meadows says the prices were less than fair.
But the financial loss wasn't what hurt Meadows the most.

Civic Center officials say this silver anniversary celebration is a thank
you to the community for their patronage.
They say the area has turned into an entertainment center.
And now it's successful because of regular events such as pro-hockey games.

But Meadows says he's always supported the Civic Center and after a quarter

The fate of Henry Street is back in city council's court.
And Roanoke Mayor David Bowers says he hopes the project will soon be back
Tomorrow night, council will hear a report from the Henry Street Committee
that has studied the issue for more than 10 years and is now disbanding.
And while no action is expected for perhaps another 90 days, Bowers says he
hopes the process will pull consensus from the controversy that has threatened

USAir announced it's changing its name to USAirways, and it's making
progress in its effort to cut its costs.
A company that makes automatic teller machines will put a plant in Danville.
Diebold Incorporated says the city can eventually bank on about 300 new

center in Clifton Forge.
The move will double its workforce there.
It has been a relatively quiet week in the bidding war between Norfolk
Southern and C-S-X for Conrail.

The University of Virginia has the highest graduation rate for black
undergraduates of any public university in the country.
That comes from the Autumn 1996 Journal of Blacks in Higher Education.
Figures show that 84 percent of the black students who entered U-V-A from
1986 to 1989 had graduated within six years.
A Russian school principal is hoping spending some time in the U-S will help
her implement new educational programs in Russia.
Last week she made a visit to the Bedford County school system.
Larisa (luh-RISS-uh) Klimenko (kli-MENG-ko) is a principal in the Russian
town of Tula (TOO-la), about an hour south of Moscow.
She's spending a month in the United States, touring different school
districts and studying their educational methods.

Virginia Tech made a statement yesterday going into the Orange Bowl and
beating Miami 21 to 7 the first Big East loss for the Hurricanes at home.
