The Medical examiner is at work today trying to identify the remains of a body found in Pittsylvania County.

Tuesday night a Philadelphia judge denied the railroad's request to delay a merger between Conrail and the C-S-X Corporation.
Yesterday, N-S's motion to immediately halt the deal was brought to an appeals court and it was ALSO denied.

The judges may still hear an appeal from N-S, which could block the C-S-X -- Conrail merger at a later date.

Air freight activity at Woodrum Field has more than doubled in the last five years... outpacing the rest of Virginia's airports.

Richmond-based C-S-X can begin buying shares of Conrail today.

A federal appeals court yesterday rejected efforts by Norfolk Southern to block C-S-X from buying up to 20 percent of Conrail stock.
But the contest between the two Virginia rail lines for Conrail isn't over.
Conrail shareholders probably will eventually decide the winner. Norfolk Southern has offered about ten billion dollars for Conrail.

In court yesterday 17- year- old Lewis "Trey" Mize pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity at the start of his murder trial.
Mize told police he shot, Roger Vassar Junior last January because he saw a similar crime on T-V.
Psychiatrists are expected to give different opinions as to whether Mize was insane the night of the murder.

Yesterday jurors found him guilty of capital murder in the deaths of his sister in law and her husband.

The jail in Covington is deteriorating fast, but Covington, Clifton Forge, and Bath county have either rejected or rescinded the current regional jail proposal.
Tuesday night the Alleghany County board proposed a joint meeting NEXT Tuesday night, to try and rework the plan.
At least three localities have to sign a regional agreement to qualify for state funding.
