The verdict is in on whether a Campbell County teenager knew right from wrong
when he shot and killed his neighbor.
This is NEWS-7 Primetime on WEFC, Good Evening, I'm COnnie Stevens.
His doctors said Lewis "Trey" Mize was insane the night he committed
murder... but a Campbell County jury didn't buy it.
The panel deliberated five hours tonight before convicting Mize of first
degree murder for the shooting death of Roger Vassar Junior.
Psychiatrists had offered differing opinions as to whether Mize was legally
insane when he shot Vassar.
But prosecutor Neil Vener says Mize knew what he was doing when he built a
silencer for his gun, and cut the phone lines at the murder scene.
IN Q=We conceded that

Mize will remain held without bond and will undergo another psychiatric
examination before he's sentenced.
The man charged with shooting a Danville police officer is already
familiar with the court system.
30- year old Marlow Andre Farmer is being held without bond for shooting
officer Dennis Haley.
It happened last night during a drug raid at 321- Moffett Street.
Police Chief Neal Morris says his men repeatedly announced themselves before
knocking the back door down.
Haley was still outside when he was shot once in the neck.
A check of Farmer's criminal record reveals he was charged several times for
malicious damage and assault and battery.
IN Q=Of course,
((NEAL MORRIS/DANVILLE POLICE CHIEF:OF COURSE WE CAN'T COMMENT ON ANY PRIOR

Farmer was charged with attempted capital murder of a police officer.

But the former football star conceded he couldn't explain how Nicole got
scratches and bruises seen in a photo taken after they had a fight in 1989.
