Danville Police Chief Neal Morris was preparing for a relaxing evening when the call came in.
Minutes later, he was trying to get information on the condition of officer Dennis Haley.
It turns out, Haley was with several officers, trying to execute a search warrant at 321- Moffett Street.
Morris says the men repeatedly announced themselves before knocking the back door down.
Haley was still outside when the bullet struck him in the neck.

In testimony he denied ever hitting or slapping his-ex wife.
Simpson recalled one fight in which he put Nicole Simpson in a headlock but he says he never struck her.
He did say once he grabbed her and pushed her out the door.
He said quote- I rassled her out of the room. What happened when she fell, I don't know, but I feel responsible for all of it.
The jury saw pictures of a battered Nicole Simpson in court.
But O-J said there was only one very physical altercation.
He says Nicole hit him one time and he did not consider that too physical.
Testimony is expected to continue for at least two more days.

For starters it was really a slow speed chase.
It happened at the "tail end" of rush hour.
A pack of dogs running along a major highway heading into New York City-
The chase began after the dogs caused an accident-
Police surrounded the pooches, but the paws were elusive- and the chase continued.
At one point the pack even stopped traffic-
Police did catch three of the dogs- but three more are still on the run.
No word on where the dogs came from or where they were trying to go.
