whose wife remains hospitalized in stable condition tonight.

Police responded to 728 Chickasaw Road around 8 this morning after a
neighbor called 9-1-1.
The neighbor had come to check on the elderly couple and found a note on the
door that said "help".
After entering the house, he found 87- year- old Edward Wright dead in his
bedroom.
Wright's 86- year- old wife Maureen was lying in the den, but still
breathing.
Rescue workers transported her to Lynchburg General Hospital.

A teenager has been charged with attempted murder on a Roanoke police
officer.
Police say the incident started this morning when a 15- year- old male tried
to elude an officer.
The teen ended up wreaking at 5th Street and Madison Avenue.
A second officer then arrived on the scene.
He went up to the driver's side window and the youth attempted to back over
him.
The officer was able to get away from the car without being injured.
The youth then drove off and wreaked at 8th Street.
He was later caught after a foot pursuit.
Police have not released the name of the officer.

More than 100 people are dead, after a hijacked Ethiopian plane crashed into
the ocean.

Witnesses say there were two terrorists on board, demanding to go to
Australia.
The plane crashed when it ran out of fuel as the pilot was negotiating with

At least one of the hijackers survived the crash.

The plane crashed about 60 miles west of Cape Mendocino.
Search crews have found two bodies.
Rescuers say the one surviving crew member had managed to get into a
cold-water survival suit, but it had ripped and filled with water.

survival suits.

The medical director says the crisis is over, and Mother Theresa is asking

The city started the program about 10 years ago as a way to promote
voluntary desegregation and keep students interested in school.
