Andy Ward will spend two weeks in jail, after breaking one traffic law too
Ward was sentenced this morning.

Eric you've been checking out Ward's driving record, what did you find?
Jean, Ward was convicted of DUI twice this year...SUPER=@Eric1;
Once in Botetourt County, and once in Roanoke... the football coach's license
was suspended, and so was his jail sentence.
But it was speed that landed Ward in real trouble.
In August, a deputy clocked him doing 90 on highway 460... driving with that

The Commonwealth's attorney asked the judge to send Ward to jail.

The Assistant Principal at Lord Botetourt highschool told us he wasn't aware
of Ward's past convictions, and didn't know about today's trial.

He said Ward simply asked for the day off.
Football players were in MONTGOMERY COUNTY Circuit Court today.
Advisement hearings took place for the nine Virginia Tech players indicted
on criminal charges earlier this month.
Eight of them are accused of assaulting two members of the track team.
The list of charged Hokies includes Brian Edmonds.
His attorney said the starting fullback

phone call the night of the murders.
Simpson at first told police he made the call to girlfriend Paula Barbieri
from his Bronco a little after ten.

A 20-year old killer made a deal today that'll save his own life.
Christopher James Saul pled "no contest" to first- degree murder and
robbery of a Roanoke County auto mechanic.

The evidence is that Saul's car was in the shop over the New Year's
weekend, and he was desperate to find a ride.

Saul faces life in prison when he's sentenced in January.
Rocky Mount Congressman-elect Virgil Goode has resigned his state senate
That's after the state Board of Elections certified his 60-point-eight
percent of the vote in his congressional victory today.
The Governor's expected to set that special election for December 17th.
Republican delegate ALlen Dudley and Democratic delegate Roscoe Reynolds
are wasting NO time running for Goode's seat.
Both scheduled 250-dollar a head fundraisers in Richmond today.
Reynolds' fundraiser was co-hosted but NOT attended by Lieutenant Governor
Don Beyer, an event Reynolds says was planned before Beyer announced his
support of FDAA regulation of tobacco.

The recent union movement at the Carilion Health System has been no secret.
But getting employees to talk about it is another story.
Lisa Vautrot (voh-troh) is stepping forward, though.
The cardiac care nurse heads Virginia Nurses for Change, which is trying to
unionize fellow nurses at Roanoke Memorial and Community hospitals.
Vautrot says the union drive was prompted by a system wide reorganization,
which has nursing assistants handling work traditionally performed by licensed

Tipper Gore placed a star atop the National Christmas Tree near the White
House earlier today.

Keith Humphry tells us hundreds of hungry people could find out, Thursday.
Jean, local food banks say a slumping economy has cut into the donations
of food they see this time of year.
That's especially true for turkeys.
Suppliers have not been overproducing this year, which means NO surplus
birds for area food banks.
In Lynchburg, they've received less than half their usual number of turkeys
this holiday season.
They're hoping to make up the shortfall by substituting venison.
