Drunk driving charges last November in Botetourt, last February in Roanoke.

One question that is still pending is Ward's status in the school system.
The assistant principal at Lord Botetourt told me today he wasn't aware of
Ward's DUI convictions, or today's trial... He said Ward had asked for the day

As we reported a few weeks ago...seven current Virginia Tech teammates and
one former Hokie face assault charges stemming from an on- campus fight.
And in an unrelated case, another was charged with abduction.
This morning in Montgomery County Circuit Court, a series of hearings were
held to make sure they have legal counsel.
Angelo Harrison and Brad Baylor face the most serious charges.
Their attorney took the proceedings one step further, and entered NOT guilty
pleas for both of them.

Three of the accused football players received court appointed attorneys.
The first of the nine separate trials is set for late January.
An autopsy has concluded a 21 year old Radford woman found dead in her
apartment died of a single gunshot to the head.
A neighbor reported hearing a noise coming from apartment four at 17-oh-eight
Grove Avenue just before six yesterday morning.
Moments later, 26 year old Chad Larue
allegedly knocked on the neighbor's door, saying his live-in girlfriend,
Melissa Ann Dyal, had been shot.
The neighbor called 9-1-1.
Police arrested Larue at the apartment building and charged him with murder.
He's being held on 35 thousand dollars bond.
Christopher James Saul was on probation- -but he needed a car.
He came up with a plan last New Year's. Just 19 at the time, he beat a
Roanoke County mechanic to death for the use of his '86 Chrysler.
Saul pled "no contest" today to robbery and first-degree murder- -to avoid
a death sentence.
A County detective testified that Saul picked up a buddy and their
girlfriends for a night of partying at a Roanoke Hotel.

Having beaten Christopher Lee Wilson to death with a crescent wrench from
Wilson's own workbench at Brambleton Imports, Saul drove Wilson's car to a bank
in Bedford County where he tried to withdraw money from the victim's account...
Saul will be sentenced in January.
An autopsy today on a Lynchburg man found dead did NOT reveal why he died.
A neighbor found 87 year old Edward M. Wright dead and his wife unconscious
in their Chicksaw Road home Saturday morning.
86 year old Maureen Wright was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital where she
remains hospitalized in serious condition.
Edward Wright had suffered from cancer and only recently returned home from

died from cancer or another cause.
Police say an attempted murder suicide is just one theory they're pursuing.

A shortage of turkeys has area food banks scrambling to meet the needs of the
poor this Thanksgiving.
In Lynchburg, they've received less than half the usual number of donated
turkeys this year.
Food bank officials say suppliers are not overproducing, cutting back on the
