Two or three times a week over the past THREE YEARS Michael Obremski called
some unsuspecting young girl in the Roanoke area, threatening- -in graphic
detail- -to defile her.
A judge in Roanoke today doubled Obremski's sentence for the string of
obscene phone calls that the prosecutor said robbed these girls of their
innocence.

The prosecutor says that was nothing compared to the kind of graphic
language Obremski used in the hundreds of calls describing how he planned to
defile his victims.
Obremski will serve about 20 of the 31-years he got in Roanoke, before

He's also been sentenced to serve an additional 31 and a half years from
other jurisdictions.

Danville authorities are investigating the death of an elderly couple
discovered in their Springfield Road home this morning.

Police found Jessie and Elizabeth Kendrick dead after their daughter could
not get them to answer their door.
Authorities would not say how the Kendricks died but foul play appears a
factor.
A back window in the home may have been forced open, and the couple's car
was found a few blocks away.
Police did say the two may have been dead for several days before they were
discovered,
Autopsies will be done tomorrow in Roanoke.

A sheriff's deputy took a knife from a pair of murder suspects in 1985
that's now a factor in another case from the same era.
(Yens Sir-ings) Jens Soering's attorney hoped the knife would exonerate him
in the deaths of Derek and Nancy Hayson.
But it came back from the state lab this week withOUT any traces of blood.

crashed Saturday into the Indian Ocean near the Comoros Islands off the east

An accident involving a fire truck and a police car has a Radford
firefighter out of a job AND charged with driving under the influence.
Tommy Long was placed on administrative leave immediately after the accident
last Thursday.
Today he was fired.
Radford police chief A-C Earles says the fire truck hit a police car that
was parked at another wreck at the intersection of Rock Road and Auburn Avenue.
The accident caused minor damages to the police car and fire truck and no
one was injured.
Long had been a firefighter in Radford for more than 20 years.

The Virginia Department of Health has just finished its second annual survey
of how often illegal sales of tobacco to minors are made.
About 100 youth volunteers tried to purchase tobacco at more than one
thousand stores and vending machines around the state.
They were successful in making an illegal purchase 37 percent of the time.

eight-point seven million dollar jackpot.
The Richards bought the winning ticket at C-J's Market on Chestnut Street in
Salem.

The Richards got their first of 19 payments today for 149-thousand dollars,
after taxes.
