Some past and present Radford fire department sources say a firefighter's alleged drug use may have been a public safety concern for years.
Tommy Long was charged with driving under the influence of drugs last Thursday after the fire engine he was driving hit a parked police car.
Yesterday he was fired.

Fire chief Martin Roberts says there's only been one other incident in the three year's HE'S been chief.
He wrote Long a letter last Spring telling him to straighten up or he'd be fired, and says there were no other problems until the accident last Thursday.
State police say Long admitted he had taken prescription medication, and that Roberts remarked at the accident scene that he could tell Long was quote "snockered."
