The weather presents few problems for holiday travelers. There will be some
clouds for Thanksgiving Day but no rain.
An elderly Danville couple found dead in their home yesterday had been shot
An autopsy performed today revealed Jesse and Elizabeth Kendrick were both
shot in the head.
Police say they'd been dead for about a week.
The Kendricks' daughter was apparently in town for Thanksgiving and notified
police after she couldn't get anyone to the door.
A window at the couple's house appeared to have been pried open and their
car was missing.
It was later recovered about a block from their Springfield Road home.
Police are following up on several leads but have not made an arrest.
Lord Botetourt High School Coach Andy Ward hasn't been back in class since
he was sentenced to jail for traffic violations two days ago.
Ward was sentenced to two weeks in jail for speeding, and for driving with a
license that was restricted because of two drunk driving charges.
The assistant Superintendent tells us Ward is still employed with the school
system, but won't say if he's been suspended.
Teachers at Lord Botetourt have been holding classroom discussion about the

Nichols says most of the students she knows think Ward should keep teaching
Ward will serve part of his jail sentence this weekend.
Some present and former Radford fire department sources say a firefighter's
alleged drug use may have been a public safety concern for years.
The question is, how long did city officials know about it?
Tommy Long was charged with driving under the influence of drugs last
Thursday after the fire engine he was driving hit a parked police car.
Yesterday he was fired.
Several sources who did not wish to be identified said Long's termination is
Fire chief Martin Roberts says there's only been one other incident in the
three year's HE'S been chief. He wrote Long a letter last Spring telling him
to straighten up or he'd be fired, and says there were no other problems until
the accident last Thursday.
State police say Long admitted he had taken prescription medication, and
that Roberts remarked at the accident scene that he could tell Long was
"snockered" when he marked on.

Mayor Tom Starnes says city council was told of another situation involving
alcohol in the 1980's.
Calvin Whitt, who was fire chief back then, referred questions to City
Manager Robert Asbury, who said privacy laws prohibit him from answering any
questions involving Long's personnel file.
An Army Reserve Unit here in the Roanoke Valley is among the latest to be
placed on alert for possible duty in Bosnia.
The 110 members of the 21-74th Garrison Support Unit are based at the Salem
The unit has been notified to begin making preparations for the mission,
but an army spokesman says that does NOT mean the soldiers will definitely be
The Pentagon says some troops will begin moving out after Christmas. And by
mid-March, it expects to deploy a full 85- hundred soldiers.

A family of six is homeless tonight after their Lynchburg house went up in

Fire destroyed a hay barn in Bedford County this afternoon.
The fire started at about 1:30 in a field off Route 24 near Staunton River
Owner Danny Simmons lost dozens of bales of hay; officials estimated his
loss at about 3-thousand dollars.
No word on what might have started the fire.

offensive player of the year today.
He finished his career as the NCAA's all-time career rushing leader this
season as he finished his career with 5,349 yards.

One of the big things to keep an eye on this Friday is whether or not Tiki
Barber can rack up 125 yards against Tech and become UVa's all-time career
