It's an every-day occurrence in most major metropolitan areas of America: a
murder a day.
But not in Danville. And yet they've surpassed that rate in Danville this
week. Four dead... one man charged with capital murder.
Archie Moore was found dead in his apartment in the Cabin Lake Complex this
morning, not far from where an elderly couple was found Tuesday.
Eighteen-year-old Percy Levar Walton of Danville is the suspect in that
A fourth victim, Willie Troy Kernodle was fatally shot in the chest this
morning in Danville.

And Danville Police continue to follow up on leads in connection with the 2
murders EARLIER in the week in Danville.
Jessie and Elizabeth Kendrick were shot to death inside their house during
an apparent break- in.
One of the home's windows had been pried open... and the elderly couple's
vehicle had been stolen. It was later found nearby.
At this point, no arrests have been made.
Danville police have yet another death they are investigating--a man was
shot and killed in his home early this morning.
Willie Troy Kernodle was found in his home on Ross Street with gunshot
wounds to the chest.
He was taken to Danville Regional Memorial Center where he was pronounced
dead on arrival.
Police have not released any more details on the case.
Jens Soering wrote a letter to the love of his life LAST Thursday,
appealing to her to admit to the murder for which HE's serving a double LIFE
Elizabeth Haysom is serving 90 years as an accomplice AFTER the fact to the
Soering admitted killing her parents in 1985, because he believed she
wanted them dead.
He's got a hearing a week from Monday where his attorney will argue- -once
again- -that he accepted the blame only to cover up for her.
Many of those close to the case believe SHE was there when her parents were
killed- -otherwise, they would never have let him in the house, they despised
him so much.
The search continues for a Florida teenager whose parents were found
murdered in their home Monday night.

Fifteen -year old Heather Wendorf is believed to be one of five teenagers
who are subject of a nation-wide search for the bludgeoning death of her
Heather is said to have told friends she was a member of a "vampire cult"
and that she was a demon who drank human blood as part of the cult's ritual.

An unprecedented wave of protest continued in Serbia today as the Socialist
government cracked down on independent media there.
The mood was tense on the streets a day after demonstrators threw stones,
eggs and paint bombs at government-run television and newspapers offices,
symbols of the government's power.
Thousands of students marched through the streets of Belgrade to
show they had joined the protest against the socialist rule of President
Milosevic, who recently annulled municipal elections won by the opposition.

Thousands of the Washington-area's homeless and hungry enjoyed a traditional
Thanksgiving meal on the grounds of the U-S Capitol.
The food was prepared by community groups that say they believe no one should
miss out on the traditional feast.
More than two thousand dinners were served.
There had been concern organizers would not be able to feed everyone, but a
last minute rush of donations insured there was enough to go around.

Whatever form the high school project takes, the work won't be complete

Reckless handling of a firearm is the charge after a hunting accident
yesterday in Franklin County.
Sheriff's deputies say Michael Turner was accidentally shot in the stomach
by his hunting partner... Eric Reynolds, who was later charged.
As for Turner... he underwent surgery at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is
listed in stable condition.
Authorities believe the accident might have been avoided yesterday had the
victim been wearing blaze orange.
Virgil Goode's appointment to the Agriculture committee could be good news
for Southside tobacco growers.
Goode was appointed to the House Committee on Agriculture.
He's replacing Fifth District Congressman L- F Payne who's retiring from
Congress at the end of the year.
The agriculture committee has primary jurisdiction over specialty crops such
as tobacco and peanuts.
The majority of Virginia's tobacco is grown in the Fifth District.
The committee also oversees the dairy, livestock and poultry programs as
well as programs such as food stamps.
Bob Goodlatte is the only other Virginia lawmaker who's a member of the
House Agriculture committee.

Up next, four Bedford County teenagers are suspended from school after
they're accused of planning to distribute a prescription drug to classmates.
and thanks to one after- school program, a group of youngsters is forging a
bond with senior citizens.

There is some uncertainty about the status of Lord Botetourt High School
football Coach Andy Ward.
The Roanoke Times quotes two school board members as saying Ward was
Board member Michael Beahm told News-7 today that Board Chairman Jim Ruhland
told HIM Ward was suspended as of Tuesday. But Beahm says only Superintendent
Robert Reece can actually confirm the action.
Reece is out of town for the holiday.
Monday Ward was ordered to serve 14 days in jail for speeding, and for
driving with a license that was restricted because of two drunk driving
At the time of his most recent arrest Ward was driving a car belonging to
one of his football players.
Ward begins serving his term this weekend.
Police have filed charges against three Bedford Middle School eighth-graders
for possessing or distributing the prescription stimulant Ritalin.
The three, along with a fourth boy, were suspended from school last week.
School officials say one of the boys had a prescription for the drug and
brought it to school.
Authorities say the boys were planning to distribute the drug.
Ritalin is most often prescribed to treat Attention Deficit Disorder.
It also is a popular street drug.
A Bedford County program is bringing generations together--teaching children
the value of a good deed while brightening the lives of some elderly folks.

It's based in this trailer at The Rain Tree Apartment complex.
And offers children help with their homework and a safe place to play.
