Archie Moore was found dead in his apartment in the Cabin Lake Complex this
morning, not far from where an elderly couple was found Tuesday.
Eighteen-year-old Percy Levar Walton of Danville is the suspect in that
case.

Jessie and Elizabeth Kendrick were shot to death inside their house during
an apparent break- in.
One of the home's windows had been pried open... and the elderly couple's
vehicle had been stolen. It was later found nearby.
At this point, no arrests have been made.

shot and killed in his home early this morning.
Willie Troy Kernodle was found in his home on Ross Street with gunshot
wounds to the chest.
He was taken to Danville Regional Memorial Center where he was pronounced
dead on arrival.
Police have not released any more details on the case.

Reckless handling of a firearm is the charge after a hunting accident
yesterday in Franklin County.
Sheriff's deputies say Michael Turner was accidentally shot in the stomach
by his hunting partner... Eric Reynolds, who was later charged.
As for Turner... he underwent surgery at Roanoke Memorial Hospital and is
listed in stable condition.
Authorities believe the accident might have been avoided yesterday had the
victim been wearing blaze orange.

The agriculture committee has primary jurisdiction over specialty crops such

The committee also oversees the dairy, livestock and poultry programs as
well as programs such as food stamps.

The Roanoke Times quotes two school board members as saying Ward was
suspended.

told HIM Ward was suspended as of Tuesday. But Beahm says only Superintendent
Robert Reece can actually confirm the action.
Reece is out of town for the holiday.
Monday Ward was ordered to serve 14 days in jail for speeding, and for
driving with a license that was restricted because of two drunk driving
charges.

Police have filed charges against three Bedford Middle School eighth-graders
for possessing or distributing the prescription stimulant Ritalin.
The three, along with a fourth boy, were suspended from school last week.
School officials say one of the boys had a prescription for the drug and
brought it to school.
Authorities say the boys were planning to distribute the drug.
Ritalin is most often prescribed to treat Attention Deficit Disorder.
It also is a popular street drug.
