A judge has ruled Virginia Military
Institute must file quarterly reports to a federal court outlining its
plan to admit women.

But the judge says the school does not have to get the federal
government's approval of the plan before it can be put into effect.
The ruling shoots down the Justice Department's claim that the school had 30
days to submit a plan for bringing women into its corps of cadets.
V-M-I will admit women for the first time next fall.
That follows a Supreme Court ruling that it can't remain a state-supported
school and keep women out.
