Good Evening, you're watching NEWS-7 Primetime on WEFC, I'm Connie Stevens.
SS=DUPONT
The annual bike race that passes through central and southwest Virginia has
been called "publicity money can't buy."
But with Dupont, the main sponsor, pulling out, it could be pulling the plug
on the entire event.
(----------------)
VO-NAT
SUPER=@File;
DuPont has been involved in what's been considered America's premier cycling
event for eight years.
The company had said that 1997 would be its last year.
But now DuPont says it's pulling out as of today because of UNmet
contractual obligations.
Dupont blames a lawsuit between the event's owners, which has put planning
for the race six months behind.
Over the years, the Tour Dupont has made stops in Roanoke, Blacksburg,
Lynchburg and dozens of communities in between.

Local cycling enthusiast Brian Duncan tells NEWS-7 with Dupont pulling out,
there's not much time to raise money.
