It appears an electrical short sparked a fire that killed a teenager in
Pittsylvania County this morning.

Fire consumed the mobile home about six thirty- while 17 year old Alexander
Ferrell was in a back bedroom.
Sheriff's officials say the teen's father had already left for work when his
mother spotted flames.
The mobile home was on Beaver Street, off Route 360 in Blairs.
Ferrell's body has been brought to Roanoke for an autopsy.

Carbon monoxide essentially prevents oxygen from entering the blood stream.
Tom Cahill of Danville survived carbon monoxide poisoning.
He says he first noticed something was wrong when he got up to care for his
cats who'd become sick.

instead of lethal injection for his December 18th execution.

Virginia's Tiki Barber has another award to place under the Christmas tree.
The star tailback was named Eastern College Athletic Conference player of
the year.

Barber has carried the ball 250 times for the Cavs this season, racking up
more than 13-thousand yards.
Barber's 162 yard effort against Virginia Tech put him on top of U-V-A's all
time rushing list with 3,389 yards for his college career.
Barber's other awards include A-C-C player of the year and college football
player of the year in Virginia.
Barber and the 'Hoos finish out the season against Miami in the Carquest
Bowl.

Roanoke Parks and Recreation worked on the field for a short time today but
decided to stop for fear of doing more harm than good because the field was too
wet. They will re evaluate in the morning. Robin Reed's forecast calls for rain
to start after midnight tonight and stop sometime before kickoff.
