Soering's attorney says a Bedford deputy questioned two drifters a few days

patrol car.
The same two men later robbed and killed a vagrant in Roanoke.
Gail Marshall claims investigators never passed this information along to
Soering's attorneys, who might have used it to his advantage during the trial.

A Smyth County man is behind bars... charged with murdering his son- in-
law.
According to authorities, 62- year- old Joseph Louthen called 9-1-1 Sunday
night to report that he had shot 40- year- old Roger Thomas.
When deputies got there, they found Thomas already dead.
He had FOUR gunshot wounds.
His wife--Louthen's daughter-- was apparently at the scene when the shooting
occurred.
Louthen is being held at the Smyth County Jail in lieu of 200- thousand
dollars bond.

Two days before 90 year- old Anna Lester was beaten and stabbed inside her
home, the man charged in her murder said he wanted to kill all the black women
in Christiansburg.
That was the testimony of a 15 year- old boy, who lives in the house at
which James Reid boarded.

The final round of the PGA qualifying tournament was washed out at La
Purisma Golf Course in Santa Barbara and the final scores were tallied from the

shot under par in a snow storm. We talked to Chip by phone from California.
