The father of a female cadet at The Citadel says his daughter has been
"living in terror" at the formerly all-male military academy.
Harvey Messer says his daughter was one of two cadets who had flammable
liquid poured on her and her clothes set on fire.
He also says his daughter, Kim, has been shoved against a wall with a
rifle butt in her back and struck in the head.
Messer is now questioning whether is daughter will return to the South
Carolina school after the Christmas break.

As Norfolk Southern and CSX battle over Conrail in a fight that will create
a railroad giant, another big transportation merger is in the works.
After a lot of rumours, Boeing announced plans to buy McDonnell Douglas.
The new company is not expected to layoff any of its workers, in fact
management on both sides say they expect continued growth.

It is expected to become the largest aerospace company in the world. Boeing
is buying McDonnell Douglas for more than 13 billion dollars.
The deal announced Sunday will need the approval of federal regulators.
But when completed, the resulting company, to be known as Boeing is
expected to staff almost 200-thousand and operate in 27 states.

Recently Boeing has been gaining strength...five months ago Boeing purchased a
majority of Rockwell International's defense and aerospace businesses. And
the pentagon named Boeing one of two finalists for the lucrative contract to
build the new joint strike fighter.
But McDonnell Douglas has not had the same luck, once the nation's largest
defensg contractor...it lost its bid with the pentagon for the same project.
And some have voiced concerns about possible layoffs. But others see this
deal as a move in the right direction.

A family crisis filled one woman with the spirit of giving.
Sheila Obenchain (O-ben-Chain) decided to give bicycles to underprivileged
children after her grandfather became gravely ill.
Last month Sheila didn't know if her grandfather, Reginald Bohon (BO-hon),
would live to see Christmas.
During this holiday season she's celebrating his health by giving to others.
She set a goal of raising money to buy 20 bikes.
But in four days she raised over two thousand dollars and bought 55 bikes.

It's been a year since Republicans fell short in their bid to control the

A Roanoke teenager is charged with capital murder.
The seventeen year old is accused of shooting another teenager in his
neighborhood last week, and will be arraigned tomorrow.

The youth's identity is not being released.

Just nine of 400 workers accepted the deal, which has a 35-thousand dollar
The union representing CFW directory assistance workers in Clifton Forge has
filed federal charges against the company, accusing it of deliberately trying
to make the negotiations fail.
CFW calls the charges frivolous, saying at one point the union delayed the
