players, the Virginia Tech football team was finally basking in the glory of
its upcoming Orange Bowl bid against Nebraska.
Now another serious diversion.
EDMONDS Senior starting fullback Brian Edmonds, one of the players charged
in an on-campus brawl earlier in the season, is now charged with rape and
sodomy.
CRAWFORD So is his roommate, sophomore receiver James Crawford, one of two
players whom Christy Brzonkala accused of raping HER last year.
STANDUP According to an attorney who represents both players the alleged
victim in this case says Crawford and Edmonds raped her in an apartment the
players share in Blacksburg.
He says the woman had been at the apartment Friday night for a party, that
she left, then broke in through a patio door several hours later to demand
money.

((Two of the four women students who donned the military
uniforms of Citadel cadets to make history last summer were in
civvies today....and no longer living in the dormitories where male
upperclassmen have the power to discipline them.
Kim Messer and Jeanie Mentavlos asked -- through their lawyers --
that they be removed from the authority of male cadets. The school
agreed...but told them they must stop wearing cadet uniforms.
Mentavlos's parents made an emergency trip to the campus over the weekend.

Kim Messer's father, Harvey, a retired army sergeant, told one
newspaper the two women had been struck in the head by a rifle wielded by a
male cadet.
He said his daughter had been "living in terror for God knows how long."
"Nothing was done....it got worse."
Earlier, college officials were told by another cadet that the two
women were among three students who were sprayed with flammable
liquid and set on fire by a cadet a month ago.

The Citadel....for 150 years a bastion of all-male military
education was open to women under court orders. But Shannon Faulkner, the
first woman student, withdrew, citing stress.
Four more women started in August, as school officials claimed they had
adopted stern measures to protect them from abuse.
Authorities called in South Carolina police and the FBI to
investigate. While agreeing to isolate the two women....Citadel officals
denied their lawyers' claims their safety was in danger.

Over twelve hundred children will have new bikes this Christmas.

The donated bikes formed a Christmas tree in the Tanglewood mall parking
lot over the last four days.
The tree is the result of the Bikes or Bust campaign, co-sponsored by J-93
point-five and your hometown station.
The goal was one thousand bikes, but the two-wheelers kept rolling in this
morning, until the total added up to 12-hundred-37.
