Icy roads throughout our region are making driving dangerous tonight.
Route 2-20 in the Alleghany Highlands is closed tonight because of slick roads.
The Sheriff's department says icy conditions have made driving treacherous on both Route 2-20 and Interstate 64.
It reports at least 20 accidents in that area since three o'clock this afternoon.
The stretch of highway is closed from 6-87 to the Bath County Line, including the area through Covington.
The Blue Ridge Parkway is also closed tonight.

Rebels in Peru are releasing more hostages tonight.

Peruvian television broadcast live pictures of hostages boarding busses that lined up in front of the compound where the rebels took 340 hostages on Tuesday.
The commander of the rebels said he was releasing 225 hostages as a "Christmas gesture".
Peruvian news reports say the freed hostages include diplomats from the United States, Germany, and Canada.
One of the American hostages, has family members here in Roanoke.
There's no word yet if he is among the hostages released tonight.

Catalog company Hanover Direct has announced 100 layoffs, and workers say more cutbacks may be one the way.
Checking the financial markets for the week, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 180 points, while Nasdaq finished up about 4 points.

The hotel was built in 1930.
Among the names in its guest register: Joan Crawford, President Kennedy, Eleanor Roosevelt, writer James Michener and Elvis Presley.
Residents fought to save this building, trying to find a way to re-develop it, but the city council voted to tear it down.

Margret Rey, the author of the Curious George children's book series died today.
Rey and her late husband wrote the first book in Paris in the 30's.
They escaped on bicycles just before German troops occupied the city, carrying the unsold manuscript with them.
The first of seven books was published in 1941.
The series sold 20 million copies world-wide.
Margret Rey, dead at age 90.

The Carolina Panthers became the fastest expansion team to make the playoffs when they captured the N-F-C west title and a first round bye by beating the Pittsburgh Steelers 18 to 14.

Unser and a friend were riding snowmobiles near the New Mexico-Colorado border Thursday, when they had engine trouble.
They hiked for two days, spending the night in a snow cave, fighting high winds and eating snow.
