The approval of a new weight loss drug this year garnered mixed reviews from the medical community. Dexfenfluramine, sold under the brand name "Redux," has a fatal flaw... in rare cases, the diet drug causes a deadly lung condition.
People seeking cosmetic weight loss, might want to resist temptation and go the diet and exercise route.
The same advice could apply to samplers of the new fake fat...olestra. The newly approved fat substitute can cause serious stomach upset.
Instead, the health conscious might want to try this old standby:
In 1996, oatmeal became the first specific food allowed by the F-D-A to carry a health benefit claim right on the label.
A daily dose can reduce the risk of heart disease.
And if you're feeling your oats... you can feel more comfortable using your microwave oven to cook them.
