Three little girls put themselves at risk trying to save the mother of two of them from a fire, but it turned out the mother wasn't even there.

The girls, ages four, seven and 11 ran to a neighbor's for help saying they were unable to get into the mother's room.

One of the girls hurt her hand trying to get into her mother's room, and firefighters spent an hour searching for the woman in the burning house.
When police took the children to get some food, they spotted the mother in another car.
The woman said a neighbor was supposed to be watching the kids.
Officials believe the fire started as a result of clothes left on top of a floor furnace.
No one was SERIOUSLY injured.
The house and its contents were destroyed.

Roanoke police have charged a 22 year old man in connection with a shooting last night.
Thaddeus Lee Ross of Mountain View Terrace is charged with malicious wounding, attempted robbery and use of a firearm.

A 22-year old man was shot in the hip in the 800 block of Hunt Avenue just before 6:30 last night.
Police say Clarence Patterson was confronted by two men who asked him "Where's the stuff?"
When Patterson denied he had anything, the two men pulled out guns and started shooting.
At least one bullet hit Patterson.
Police spent close to an hour looking for shell casings and other evidence.

The wreath and flowers were placed among the two acres of debris where the D- C- 8 went down.
At this point, there are still many unanswered questions concerning the crash... but investigators now say there is no evidence of an aircraft maintenance problem.
They have also all but ruled out the weather as a PRIMARY factor. STAND UP 11:56:30
The NTSB has made its last trip down this bone jarring mountain road, but the work is far from over. They say it could take months before they know what caused this devastating crash.

A man from New Castle has been charged with robbing a bank in Harrisonburg.
37-year old Richard Donald Hawes is being held without bond at the Rockingham County jail, for robbing a First Union bank last week.
After his picture from the bank surveillance camera appeared in the media, police got a tip where Hawes might be.
Hawes is charged with bank robbery and illegal use of a firearm.
