Patterson was hit once.

Patterson was scheduled for surgery at Roanoke Memorial Hospital last
night-- officials are not releasing his condition.

Four inmates suffered minor injuries.
Botkins says the stabbing happened near the mess hall.

Botkins says dogs and a warning shot from a non-lethal pellet gun helped get
the situation under control.
The stabbing is under investigation, and the department has a suspect who
has NOT yet been charged.
