A "cash flow problem" is leaving about a hundred people out of work at a

were no longer employed when they went to work today.
A letter was handed to each worker, saying the future of Allen-Morrison was
so tenuous, employees were advised to take all their personal effects out of

65 years caught city leaders by surprise.

Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board are considering the
possibility that human error caused last month's fatal plane crash in Giles
The company that was overhauling the D- C- 8 has all but been cleared of any
Days after the plane went down, weather related causes were also ruled out.
An N- T- S- B spokesman says the focus of the investigation has now turned
to pilot error.
But it could take as long as nine months before officials make a final
determination as to the cause of the crash.
The plane was recently purchased by Airborne Express... and a crew of six
people were taking it on a "test run" when it went down.
There were no survivors.

Former Salem Delegate Steve Agee (AY-jee) says he wants the job.
Agee ran for Attorney General in 1993 and lost the GOP nomination to Jim

Alexandria attorney and former House of Delegates member Bernie Cohen is
also vying for the appointment.
The Roanoke area's already represented on the high court.
Lawrence Koontz took his seat on the court in 1995.
Delegate Joe Johnson from Abingdon says its not enough that same sex
marriages are illegal.
He wants to make sure gays and lesbians have no spousal rights in the

Governor Allen says gay relationships are NOT quote- "normal," and he'd

A Virginia State Police investigation has been launched following a
citizen's complaint of police brutality by Bedford County Sheriff's Deputies.
David Fielder of Bedford says the deputies roughed him up when he was
arrested for disorderly conduct at a Smith Mountain Lake restaurant in June.
Fielder and 37 other people were charged that night, mostly with minor
Fielder says he hit his head after Lieutenant John McCain pulled him from
his car to make the arrest.
An internal investigation turned up no wrong- doing, but McCain himself
requested the state police look into the matter, in his words "to put it to

The F-B-I is looking into a possible connection between seven letter bombs
found both in Washington D.C. today-- and at the federal correctional center at

Phil Plaster is just two days into a "two- week sprint," but he says he can
already see the finish line.
Today, the Patrick County Republican said he intends to claim a seat in the
General Assembly, by winning one vote at a time.
A member of the Patrick County Board of Supervisors, Plaster is running for
the 10th district seat that was held by Roscoe Reynolds.
Plaster expects to claim the Republican nomination tonight, and says he
will press a campaign focused on economic and educational opportunity.

A new study suggests the tuberculosis vaccine may have more benefits for
kids rather than simply protecting them against T-B.
Experts in Japan and Britain say it might lower the risk of asthma.
Doctors like Irwin Redlener-- who specializes in childhood asthma-- know
certain ENVIRONMENTAL factors cause the disease.
But this groundbreaking study in the Journal "Science" finds the
tuberculosis vaccine may actually prevent it.

Michael Irvin's attorney has spoken for the Dallas Cowboy receiver,

Today, the world lost a former tour de france king and one of the world's
most talented cyclists.
32 year old Miguel Indurain announced his retirement today. The spanish
cycling star bounced back from last years 11th place finish in the Tour to win
the Olympic time trial in Atlanta. He dropped out of the Tour of Spain because
of illness this last year.
The man who created the "Tickle Me Elmo" doll, caught the attention of F-B-I
agents looking for the Unabomber.
Mark Johnson-Williams told a California newspaper that he was investigated
for six months.
He says he thinks the FBI noticed him because he was always sending batteries
and headless dolls in the mail.
The F-B-I was seeking a northern California man in his 40's who
had studied science in the Midwest.
Johnson-Williams is 40, taught himself calculus as a child, attended college
in Iowa and lives about 30 miles south of San Francisco.
