Allen- Morrison president Barney Reams would "not" comment on camera, but
told News-7 today he IS trying to find a way to re- open the business.
Officials from the National Transportation Safety Board have narrowed their
investigation into the recent plane crash in Giles County.
The company that was overhauling the D- C- 8 has all but been cleared of any

to pilot error.
But it could take as long as nine months before officials make a final

Abingdon Delegate Joe Johnson wants to make absolutely sure gays and
lesbians have NO spousal rights in Virginia.

House Speaker Newt Gingrich may receive a reprimand for ethics
violations-- and he could still keep his job.
Sources close to the investigation say a House ethics panel won't
recommend the more serious penalty known as a censure-- which would make him
ineligible to serve as speaker.
Gingrich has admitted he failed to get proper legal advice on using
tax-exempt contributions for possible political purposes.
He also admits providing inaccurate statements to the ethics committee.

Two Roanoke Valley legislators say they can't support giving school boards
the authority to impose their own taxes.
But today they did offer some encouragement to the Roanoke County Board of
Taxing authority for the school board is at the top of the supervisors'
wish list for the upcoming session of the General Assembly.
While that won't happen in 1997, lawmakers say the state will begin to free
up more money for school construction.

With state approval now in hand, a Blacksburg retirement community plans to
break ground in November for a new nursing home.
The health commissioner issued Warm Hearth Village's certificate of public
need for the 60-bed facility on New Year's Eve.
Two years ago, the General Assembly passed a bill exempting Warm Hearth from
a state moratorium on new nursing home space-- in order to help meet a rising
need in the New River Valley.
The health commissioner's approval was the only remaining obstacle.
Between now and November, Warm Hearth will finalize design plans and launch
a capital fundraising campaign for the project.
Officials hope to open the new nursing home in January of 1999.

Michael Irvin was still being hounded by reporters today following
accusations he and teammate Erik Williams allegedly were involved in the rape
of a woman at gun point.
Police say their investigation is still in its "very early stages" and

The man who created the most popular toy this holiday season, "Tickle Me
Elmo" caught the attention of F-B-I agents looking for the Unabomber.
Mark Johnson-Williams told a California newspaper that he was investigated
for six months.
He says he thinks the FBI noticed him because he was always sending batteries
and headless dolls in the mail.
The F-B-I was seeking a northern California man in his 40's who
had studied science in the Midwest.
Johnson-Williams is 40, taught himself calculus as a child, attended college
in Iowa and lives about 30 miles south of San Francisco.
