About 100 metal sign workers in Lynchburg are starting the New Year in an unenviable position.. the unemployment line.
The Allen- Morrison company abruptly closed its doors this morning, victim of what officials say is a cash flow problem.

The employees we talked to say this morning's closing came as a "total shock" to them.

They were met at the door by the company's comptroller who gave each worker a letter explaining what was happening.
Basically, the 100 or so workers have not been paid for the last two weeks, although they did receive a small Christmas bonus.
Lynchburg city officials say while the closing is tragic, it's not necessarily a sign that the area's economy is suffering.

All six people aboard the D-C-8 were killed when it went down on East River Mountain, just outside Narrows.
The plane was recently purchased by Airborne Express... and the crew was taking it on a "test run" when the crash occurred.
Despite these recent developments in the investigation, officials say it could take as much as nine months to prepare a final report.

Real-estate attorney Barry Flora has struck a deal with the federal government.
He was set to enter a guilty plea today, but the case was postponed.
Flora has been involved in various "straw-man" loans- -where a third-party gets the money unbeknownst to the bank. But Flora was never indicted.
The charges in this case involve a 40-thousand dollar loan. The plea agreement unsealed today requires Flora to pay back the money.
First Security Bank lent Flora's Title Insurance Company the 40-Grand in 1989, but Flora endorsed the check to Franklin County businessman William Roberts.
Though Flora could still lose his law licence and possibly go to jail, Prosecutor Jennie Montgomery agreed to call it a misdemeanor.
