Fire also destroyed a Campbell County home yesterday, leaving an elderly
woman homeless.
Crews from Altavista and Evington responded to the call on Route 682.
Fire Chief Haywood Belvin says the woman apparently poured kerosene into her
wood stove, which already contained hot coals.
The fire flared up, and the woman dropped the container, allowing the blaze
to spread even further.
She escaped without injury, but the home was a total loss.
