More Winter-like temperatures are are on the way.
A Franklin County breeder says her neighbors are on a witchhunt.
But Animal Control officers and Humane Society officials say they've rescued
more than hundred dogs and cats from the breeder's.
Humane Society officials say the floors of Valery Green's home were covered
with animal feces and litters of puppies were piled into plastic carrying
23 puppies were taken to a local veterinarian.
Most of the dogs and cats remain on the property.

Humane Society officials say neighbors have been complaining about the
facility for months.
But Russell says dogs are considered personal property and that caused
officials some problems when they tried to take action.

Valery Green says she asked her landlord to take care of the animals while
she is in the hospital.
But Russell says the job became too much of a financial burden.
The Humane Society is now helping with the care of the animals.
Valery Green is being charged with animal cruelty and neglect.
Green says these charges are false and that she had arranged care for her
animals while she is in the hospital.
She plans to hire a lawyer to fight the charges.
A member of the Virginia Military Institute board of visitors has resigned.
Thomas Moncure Junior -- a 1973 V-M-I graduate -- said yesterday he could
not support admitting women.
Moncure says V-M-I fought against admitting women for six years when sued by
the U-S Department of Justice.
Allen appointed Moncure to V-M-I's governing board in July.
Moncure was one of eight board members who voted against admitting women
following a federal Supreme Court decision that the school could not exclude
women and receive state funds.
The vote to admit women was 9-to-8.

The estranged son of missing atheist Madalyn Murray O'Hair wants a judge to
give him control of his mother's estate.
William Murray is O'Hair's elder son.
O'Hair filed a lawsuit on his behalf which led to the 1963 Supreme Court
decision that outlawed organized prayer in public schools.
O'Hair, her other son Jon and her granddaughter have not been seen since
they went on what they called a "working vacation" in September 1995.
Today, William Murray runs a Christian ministry from his home here in
And he wants an Austin, Texas, judge to make him guardian of not only
his mother's estate, but those of his younger brother and estranged daughter.
A hearing on the petition could come in a couple of weeks.
A Roanoke County Clerk of Court was within his rights to fire the chief
deputy in 19-91.
A federal appeals court ruled Monday that Steve McGraw is immune from suit.
Chief Deputy Marsha Conner sued McGraw, claiming she was dismissed for
Though the appeals court cites McGraw's "ever-changing explanations" for
firing Conner, he eventually came up with a valid reason: that it was because
she held a "policy-making position."
"While the number two position in the clerk's office is also substantially

But Jacksonville came back on two Mike Hollis field goals and an 8 yard
T-D run by Natrone Means and it was 13 to 12 Jacksonville to start the third

San Diego's loss may be V-M-I's gain. Yesterday, Charger head coach Bobby
Ross resigned that position yesterday become part of the 9-th coaching change
It's possible that Ross may be interested in returning to his alma mater
and coach V-M-I next season.
A Richmond newspaper reported this morning that Ross has told family and
friends that he eventually intends to live in Lexington and become part of the
Ross's brother Donnie is an Assistant at V-M-I and the head coaching job is
open after Bill Stewart resigned last Month.
The Virginia Cavaliers jumped back into their A-C-C schedule this
afternoon with a trip to College Park to take on the Terps.

Florida state maintained its poise James Collins pulls up and nails the

the word "ghosts" is a metaphor. Meaning both the ghosts that might scare a
child at bedtime, and the ghosts of racism still wafting over the land. So,
see it gets metaphorical. And not at all smoothly either. Plus, because
there are so many facts to deal with, covering 30 years! it can get very
awkward and very wordy. And does. But it is a forceful, sincere story of the
civil rights movement: and just for the assassin of civil rights leader
"Ghosts of Mississippi" has already been described, more than once, as
"important". A word, I'm afraid, to scare people away. The fact is, though,
it is important. A story of our nation's great civil rights struggle, already
forgotten by far too many. Sure the movie should be more lean and more
urgent. It has a tendency to be soft and noble. But it also has a
recommended final six. For, fine leading and supporting performances. And
for having something to say. Something "important". And for saying. In a
