Initiatives in California and Arizona to allow the medical use of marijuana
have set off a storm of protest from the federal government -- but Virginia
passed a similar law two decades ago.
If you use marijuana in Virginia on a doctor's advice to treat cancer and

The medicinal use of marijuana was approved by the Virginia General Assembly
as part of a general loosening of the state's laws against possession and
distribution of small amounts of the drug.
State medical authorities don't know if Virginia doctors have ever
prescribed marijuana since the law was approved.
