The accident happened around 3 in this cul-de-sac at the end of Franklin Place off Hawkins Mill Road.
State police say the girl and two friends were playing in the street when she ran to a nearby driveway to pick up some rocks.
At the same time, a neighbor was backing out of the driveway, and struck the girl.
Authorities say the driver could not see the girl because of a pickup truck parked in the street.
Trooper Rick Snead says it's not likely any charges will be placed, but he will forward the information to the commonwealth's attorney.
The girl was taken to Lynchburg General Hospital where her condition has "not" been released.
