Virginia lawmakers will be concentrating more on politics than on policies when the General Assembly session begins.
Republicans and Democrats say much of the seven-week session will be spent jostling for position as they prepare for November's election.
Up for election are the offices of governor, lieutenant governor and attorney general and all 100 seats in the House of Delegates.
