plane outside Detroit.
All 29 people on board the Comair flight were killed. The twin-engine plane
was on its way from Cincinnati to Detroit- It went down in a snowstorm just

Two people were injured tonight after an accident on an icy bridge.
The crash happened just before nine on Route 419 in Salem.
The driver skidded across the median and over a 50 foot embankment after
apparently hitting a patch of ice.
The car landed just short of the railroad tracks underneath the overpass.
Both the driver and a passenger were taken to the hospital where their
injuries are not believed to be life threatening.
Meanwhile authorities in our area are reporting that most primary roads are
in good condition tonight.
However they caution there are still icy patches on secondary roads in many

(( THE EMBRAER 1-20 Twin-engine commuter plane crashed near the town of Ida,
Michigan...south of Detroit.
It was apparently trying to land during a snowstorm.
The accident shortly before dusk killed all of the 26 passengers and 3 crew
members on board.
Witnesses said the plane slammed into the ground and broke into
pieces...strewing wreckage across the field.

Emergency workers arrived and started looking for survivors.
Reports so far have shown the pilot gave no sign of trouble during landing
preparations for detroit metro airport.
The National Transportation Safety Board...the N-T-S-B...has an
investigative team on the way to the scene.

A shooting at a Henry County furniture company leaves a woman in critical
condition- her boyfriend behind bars.
Authorities have charged 35-year old Timothy Dexter Walton with shooting his
girlfriend this morning inside the "Bassett Superior Lines" plant.
Investigators say Walton apparently left his work station, pulled out a
sawed off shotgun, and fired at least two shots in the direction of his
37-year old Susie Penn is in critical condition after surgery today.
Other employees were in the room at the time, but no one else was injured.

That's something Buena Vista residents know all too well.

Police records show a 911 call was made from the house three days before the
murder but no one spoke and the caller hung up.
Meanwhile a Denver lab is working on a ransom note- Handwriting experts are
anyzling the three page letter.
DNA testing is also underway.
Investigators are trying to figure out who killed JanBonet Ramsey. She was
found dead in the family's basement the day after Christmas.
Frank Sinatra reportedly suffers from Alzheimers disease.
NBC quotes two sources close to Sinatra as saying he has the disease.
But his spokeswoman denies the report.
Sinatra suffered a heart attack this morning and was admitted to Cedars
Sinai Medical Center.
He is now undergoing treatment- Doctors say his prognosis is good.

More than two dozen suspected drug dealers are behind bars in Bedford
County, victims of the latest phase of "Operation Crackdown".

Police say the suspects imported and sold millions of dollars of crack
cocaine in Bedford County over the past few years.
The roundup began last night and early this morning, as arrest teams swooped
down on some of the county's more notorious drug havens.

Virginia Tech broke a two game Atlantic 10 losing streak last night beating
William and Mary 76 to 41 at the Cassell.

Radford's leading scorer Anthony Walker has left the team temporarly to be

On the womens side, Jacki Joyner Kersee says she's leaving the Richmond
Rage of the American Basketball league.
Kersee wants to divert her focus away from basketball and devote all of her
concentration to track and field. She joined the ABL with the understanding
that she would play in 28 of the teams 35 regular season games. She leaves
having played in 17.

It's no secret that major college football bowl appearances are big money
Over the last few years it's added up to millions for Virginia Tech.

It's a new track and soccer complex and a women's softball field, which
money from the 1995 Sugar Bowl and 1994 Gator Bowl are funding.
That money has also helped in the ACADEMIC arena, as will the 1996 Orange

projected at four million dollars.
To give you some perspective, Bourne says just the interest on that amount
would fund three of Tech's non-revenue sports.SU
So while Nebraska may have scored the big honors in the Orange Bowl, the
Hokies still come out winners financially.
Even after travel expenses, Tech brings home more than two million dollars,
more than half of which will go to cash reserves.
