Police say 20-year-old Daniel Kelly of Maryland was walking down Southgate
Drive on Tech's campus with his girlfriend shortly before ten last night.
Apparently Kelly's car had run out of gas near the intersection of Southgate
and U-S 4-60.
Police say the two walking with their backs to traffic when 47-year-old
Evelyn N. Williams struck them.

Kelly, a computer engineer major, had just returned to campus for the spring

Kelly was pronounced dead at Montgomery Regional Hospital shortly after the
His girlfriend was not seriously injured.
Her name is not being released.
Funeral services for Kelly will be held in Maryland.
The Newman Catholic Ministry is planning a memorial service on campus
sometime this week.
Two female cadets at the Citadel are dropping out.

Jeanie Mentavlos and Kimm Messer both say they were sexually harassed, had
their clothes set on fire, and received death threats while at the South
Mentavlos says the school broke it's promise to keep her safe.
Messer says she knows she's not welcome.
The hazing charges are being investigated.
Two other female cadets who have not made hazing accusations are expected to
return to campus.

Southwest Virginia has been experiencing the coldest temperatures of the
year this weekend.
And when the mercury drops into the teens it can create health problems,
interfere with travel and put stress on homeless shelters.

During the winter months shelters see an increase in the number of transient
people seeking a place to stay.
