A grade schooler reportedly has been charged with murder in Pittsylvania County.

Today's Roanoke Times says an eight year old boy is charged with the beating death of his stepfather, a Franklin County probation officer.
Rosser was discovered dead at his home in Pittsylvania county December 19th when he did not report to work.
Authorities say the 55-year old died from a blow to the head.
The Pittsylvania County Sheriff confirms a juvenile has been arrested in Rosser's death by has declined to give any more information.

He was found guilty of the first murder, and now stands trial for the second.
Prosecutor Ed Meeks told the jury yesterday that blood from the victim, Jacqueline Carter, was found in Burley's truck.

First to fill Virgil Goode's state Senate seat and yesterday to pick a new state delegate to take Roscoe Reynolds place.

The city of Roanoke is running a bit short of police officers.
Majors Robert Helms says he's having a hard time filling a number of vacancies in the department.
So far he received few applicants, and those few who have applied have failed polygraph tests.
City Council has authorized 258 officers.
Only 238 are currently employed.
Another eleven will hit the streets after graduation from a training academy next month.
