(( Junius Haskins and six other city leaders had gone to Washington to search for funds to renovate Lynchburg's old train station.
They'd met with Amtrak officials this morning and were scheduled to meet with Virginia's two senators when Haskins suddenly collapsed in the Senate office building.
Efforts to revive him there and on the way to the hospital were unsuccessful.
He was 54 years old.
Haskins' sudden death leaves a gaping hole, not just on City Council, but in the community.
One of the area's earliest civil rights advocates, Haskins made his mark by speaking his mind.. not afraid to take on anyone or any subject.

He has 28- miles to go.
