(( Junius Haskins and six other city leaders had gone to Washington to search
for funds to renovate Lynchburg's old train station.
They'd met with Amtrak officials this morning and were scheduled to meet
with Virginia's two senators when Haskins suddenly collapsed in the Senate
office building.
Efforts to revive him there and on the way to the hospital were
unsuccessful.
He was 54 years old.
Haskins' sudden death leaves a gaping hole, not just on City Council, but in
the community.
One of the area's earliest civil rights advocates, Haskins made his mark by
speaking his mind.. not afraid to take on anyone or any subject.

Fire officials call their unknown suspect "the Midnight Torch"... most of

has been difficult.

Ousland has resumed his attempt to become the first person to trek alone and
unaided across the Antarctic.
He has 28- miles to go.
Once he arrives, Ousland will have crossed nearly 18- hundred miles in
temperatures sometimes as low as minus 55- degrees Celsius... that's about 30-
below zero.
In 1994, Ousland became the first person to walk alone and unsupported to the
North Pole.
