Back in the early 80s, C-S-X got in the way of a merger attempt between Norfolk Southern and Conrail
Now N-S is returning the favor, as C-S-X attempts to pair up with Conrail.

The so- called Thoroughbred of Transportation won a key battle in its bidding war for the dominant carrier in the northeast.
In a vote today, Conrail shareholders gave a thumbs down to a CSX offer knowing that N-S has a much higher bid on the table.

From the get- go, N-S played the role of the dark horse in its pursuit of Conrail, the dominant railroad in the northeast.
N-S consistently ponied up more money for Conrail in the bidding war with C-S-X.
But Conrail and C-S-X had created what one Conrail executive called a "bulletproof" deal, in which competing bids would have a hard time being heard.
N-S reacted to the vote by saying "We think that the vote is a powerful message from Conrail's owners that they will not be coerced into accepting the deal CSX and Conrail tried to impose on them."
Conrail didn't let N-S celebrate long, announcing "The Conrail Board is resolute -- Norfolk's actions will have no effect on our commitment to our merger with CSX."
This was a vote people across our region have watched with interest since N-S employs more than 3500 people here, and tens of thousands of people own its stock.

Flowers have been arriving at the Cosby home here all morning and so have the media who were eventually told to go away the Cosby's wouldn't be returning here anytime soon, a police sergeant said no one would be.
Police have been working around the clock trying to come up with a composite sketch of the suspect who for now is only described as a white male. The only person believed to have seen what happened is the woman in the fur coat a 47 year old friend of the young Cosby who some say was coming to help him with his flat tire.
But now there's talk of a second witness as well- a security guard, according to kcbs-tv, who may also have seen what happened on this dark road just a few hundred feet from the busy 405 freeway.
The problem the two descriptions don't match and police are trying desperately to figure out which one is most accurate.
