Ennis Cosby was gunned down early yesterday morning while fixing a flat
tire on a California freeway.
L-A Police Chief Willie Williams says the motive for the murder is not

But throughout the bidding war for Conrail, the N-S offer has been hampered

Industry watchers are not surprised the vote may has become a close one.
Susan Chapman of Putnam Investments says shareholders are just so angry with
Conrail and the way they've handled this whole transaction...shareholders want
to send Conrail a message and other companies as well that they simply won't
accept this kind of behavior.
And regarding N-S, Steve Lewins with Gruntal points out that those guys are
brilliant, powerful, well financed...that's why this thing is going down to the

Yesterday, President Clinton declared a winter weather disaster in half of
the counties in Minnesota.
Little snow fell over the area but wind gusts of up to forty miles per hour

The House ethics committee is meeting behind closed doors this afternoon to
hear a special counsel's report on Newt Gingrich.
James Cole, who spent more than a year investigating Gingrich's filing of
misleading financial information, and Gingrich's lawyer have recommended the
House Speaker pay a six figure penalty and face a reprimand.
The ethics committee will vote Tuesday on Gingrich's punishment.
Security is tight today at abortion clinics around the country in the wake
of a double bombing yesterday in Atlanta.
The first blast went off inside a building housing an abortion clinic.
The second went off in the parking lot injuring six people.
Investigators have set up a toll-free telephone number, hoping for any
information into the attacks.
The building does contain other businesses, but investigators believe the
clinic WAS the target.

In Roanoke, a VICE president of National Business College is suing the
President for sexual harrassment.
Lisa Meredith, who is on medical leave, filed a federal lawsuit this week
against Frank Longaker and the College.
It cites numerous instances when Longaker allegedly tried to initiate a
sexual relationship with Meredith.
The complaint asks only for a judgment against Longaker without specifying
a dollar amount.
Longaker has declined to comment on the lawsuit.
After two and a half months and one-hundred-one witnesses-- testimony in O-J
Simpson's civil trial is now over.
The two final witnesses focused on photos of Simpson wearing designer shoes.
They both told the jury that the shoes match the ones worn by the killer.

Murder charges have been dropped against a suspect in one the Golden Years
murder cases in Richmond.
Annabelle Tafolla was arrested in November in the slaying of 75- year- old
Lucille Garett Boyd.
Now prosecutors say the charges have been withdrawn because of witness
Boyd was one of more than a dozen older Richmond women who were killed in
their homes in recent years.
In April, the Richmond City Council authorized a ten- thousand- dollar
reward for information leading to convictions in the murders.

A jury tacked on another life sentence to the term of convicted killer James
They found Burley guilty of first degree murder for the shooting death of
Jacqueline Carter in December, 19-95.
Burley had already received a life term for murdering Robin Burge a month
Burley's attorneys plan to appeal his latest conviction, claiming the jury
began deliberations before hearing closing arguments.
If convicted of killing his stepfather, an eight- year- old Pittsylvania
County boy will not go to a juvenile correctional center.
Experts say in order to be sentenced to a correctional center, a child has
to be at least ten- years- old.
55- year- old Bernard Rosser was discovered dead last month at his Gretna
Authorities say the Franklin County probation officer died from a severe
blow to the head.
Martinsville Commonwealth's attorney Randy Smith is NOT connected with the
case, but says if Rosser's eight- year- old step-son is convicted, probation
would be an option.

A Delta rocket has blown up just after liftoff in Florida.

up 13 seconds after liftoff from Cape Canaveral this morning.
Sparks showered into the air, and a boom could be heard several miles away.
