star-studded inaugural event of the weekend.
Whoopi Goldberg, Candice Bergen and Michael Douglas hosted the gala that
featured performances by Babyfacce, Kenny G and Kenny Rogers.
President Clinton arrived at the black tie event by helicopter, and said the
performers were "uniquely American."

When all is said and done, the inauguration and the accompanying festivities
will cost about 43 million dollars.. including nine million leftover from the
last inauguration.
Going into his second term, the President is enjoying healthy optimism
nationwide.. 60 percent of Americans polled approve of the way the president
is handling his job.
66 percent of those polled are optimistic about the next four years.

drinking water.

against President Clinton, argued last week before the U.S. Supreme Court.
Davis is also Ramona Hines' attorney, in her lawsuit against a Martinsville
TV station.
One viewer questioned our motives in airing Hines' videotape of Davis
talking to her about arranging a possible appearance in Playboy magazine.
"It was to be expected that the media would go after Gil Davis for daring to
challenge President Clinton. What was not expected was that News 7 would be
leading the charge. That your news operation would stoop this low in attempting
to help Clinton is unfortunate. Character assassination is something people
have come to expect from the national media. I had thought News 7 had a better
sense of fairness. To align yourself with the Clinton "whatever is necessary to
keep power" mentality does you no service."
Another viewer was more critical of HINES' motives.
"It appeared to me that the female involved in the above conversation was
teasing and flirting with Mr. Davis. At one point she seemed to encourage him
in the conversation by saying "What did I say"...I also heard her giggling in
the tape. So it has yet to be proven to me that this man is guilty of "immoral
conduct, etc.". Perhaps the motives of the female involved should be suspect.
Another question...why did she meet with him in a hotel room of her own free
will?"

Ridgeway's Jimmy Hensley had a good run today Hensley finished sixth in
the race in Truck number 43.
But on the final lap of the race Joe Ruttman hits leader Jack Sprague in
the rear, Sprague loses control of the truck spinning out as Ruttman went on
the inside.
It happened in the corner of turn one and ruttman was able to cross the
finish line and win the race.

The Women's Distance Medley Relay team at Virginia Tech set a new school
record yesterday in the first meet on the new indoor track at Rector Field
House.

The Mondo 200 meter six lane indoor track was set up Friday on the start of
the Invitational track meet that ended yesterday.
The track is designed with varied banks to allow the fastest angle of run
which will improve times in most events.
Its only one of five in the United States and it can only help the track
programs at Tech.

Forget the water hazards and sand traps... golfers at a course in New
Zealand had to play around the seal.

The large spotted fur seal came ashore and decided to take a stroll on the
eighth fairway.
Animal control officers finally netted the seal at a nearby garage and
sedated him.
They say he just took a wrong turn.
The seal was taken to a beach and released.
