An early morning fire has left a Roanoke family homeless.
The call came in around five.
Fire officials say it appears the blaze started near the fireplace of 33-17 Ventnor Avenue.

The blaze did an estimated 35-thousand dollars in damage.
The house is nearly a total loss.
No one was seriously injured, but a neighbor did hurt his hand when he tried to alert the residents by knocking on the windows.
But the owners were not at home.
Officials say they had left the house after smelling smoke.
They told officials they thought the chimney was clogged.
The fire is under investigation.

Bedford County plans to be the first county in Virginia to turn lake water into drinking water.

The county has been working on the plan for two years.
Officials estimate the cost of the plant at 750-thousand-dollars.

First, though, the county must get the approval of state agencies.

Checking the financial markets, the Dow Jones Industrial Average crossed the 6800 barrier, surging 129 points for the week, the Nasdaq composite also had a strong five days, finishing up 17 points.
