When 16 year- old Jennifer Spears woke up around 5am, her bedroom wall was
glowing red. She could hear her father yelling that the house was on fire.

Jennifer escaped through a basement door.
She ran to a neighbor's to call 911, then returned to help her father bang
an oil drum in a desperate attempt to awaken her brothers, 11 year- old Mark
and 13 year-old John.

SUJennifer believes her brothers were probably overcome by smoke and never
heard her and her father screaming at them to get out of the house. Another
brother, 14 year-old Matthew escaped by climbing through a window, across the

Officials believe the fire started around a wood stove.
The tragedy stunned the family's neighbors.

His son Matthew is in serious condition at Shriners Burn Center in

State police are investigating a shooting where a Henry County deputy
allegedly shot and killed a suspect in self- defense.

The incident unfolded when officers pulled 35-year old David Roy Craighead
over at a Ridgeway restaurant for questioning.
Cassell says the suspect jumped out of the car and ran to a nearby field
where he was approached by two deputies.
Sheriff's officials say the officers told Craighead to put down the tire
tool he was carrying.
Authorities say when Craighead refused one of the deputies sprayed pepper
spray but that apparently did not faze him.

A blistering attack on O-J Simpson
as plaintiff's attorneys began closing arguments.
Attorney Daniel Petrocelli pointed at Simpson in court calling him a liar

He told the jury Simpson's blood drops near the bodies could not have been

Haskins died of an apparent heart attack while on city business in

The man credited with turning Elvis Presley into a star has died.
Colonel Tom Andrew Parker suffered a stroke and died in Las Vegas.
He was 87.
Parker got Elvis his first recording contracts and T-V appearances
including the Ed Sullivan show.
He managed Presley throughout his career and is credited for molding him
into a legend.
The honorary title "Colonel" was bestowed by Louisiana Governor Jimmie
Davis in 1948.
