A man was shot by a Henry County deputy last night-- The Sheriff's department says he threatened the officer with a tire iron.

The incident apparently began when officers attempted to question the man regarding damage to a nearby apartment.
Witnesses say the man pulled into the parking lot, jumped out and ran behind the restaurant.
Sheriff's officials say when he failed to surrender Sergeant Robert Wade sprayed him with pepper mace.
Sheriff Frank Cassell says the spray apparently did not faze the man and he continued to move toward the officers.

G-E told its employees yesterday that it will lay off 167 hourly production workers.
20 others volunteered to take temporary layoffs through March.
These employees average around 12- to- 15- dollars- an- hour.
